Get Noticed.

Expert college essay coaching from a school administrator and 20-year AP English educator — guiding students across the country to write the essays that earn their places.

Every Student Has a Story Worth Telling.
Let's Make Sure Admissions Officers Hear Yours.

At Authentic Voice College Essay Coaching, I work with high school students to do something most essays never manage: reveal who they actually are. Not just what they've achieved but what those achievements say about who they're becoming.

I bring over twenty years of high school education to every session, including a decade of Advanced Placement Literature and Language instruction and four years as the Assistant Principal of New Hope-Solebury High School, ranked #4 in Pennsylvania. I know what distinguishes a student who stands out. And I know how to help your student become one of them.

Coaching is conducted entirely via Zoom, serving students and families across the United States.

About Anthony Barth

Anthony Barth, college essay coach

Most college essay coaches teach writing. I do something more: I help students understand what makes them remarkable, and then I help them put it on the page in a way that cannot be ignored.

As the Assistant Principal of New Hope-Solebury High School, I work every day in the ecosystem your student is preparing to leave. I have watched thousands of young people navigate the college preparation process, and I understand, at a level most tutors simply cannot, what separates the students who get in from the ones who don't. It's rarely grades; it's almost always story.

Before stepping into school leadership, I spent two decades in the high school English classroom, including ten years teaching AP Literature and AP Language and Composition. I am currently a doctoral candidate in Educational Administration at Drexel University.

I founded Authentic Voice College Essay Coaching because the college essay is one of the few moments in the admissions process where a student's humanity can actually come through. I take that seriously, and I take every student's story seriously. When we work together, your voice is always the one on the page.

My Process: From First Conversation to Final Draft

Every student I work with goes through the same four-stage process. Not because it's easy, but because it is built on the idea that the best essays are unearthed through a process of inquiry between me and your student.

1
Brainstorming & Discovery
We begin not with a blank page, but with a conversation. Through a detailed personality inventory and a deep, exploratory interview, we excavate what is genuinely interesting and unique about this specific student, the particulars that matter most. By the end of Session 1, we have a topic, a direction, and a story worth telling.
2
Framing & Structure
A great essay is built layer by layer, constructed to eventually reveal the human behind the application. Together, we construct a section-by-section framework for the Common App essay that gives the student's story both shape and momentum. The student knows exactly what they are writing before they write it.
3
Drafting & Revision
The student writes. Then we read together carefully, generously, and honestly. I do not rewrite. I ask the questions that reveal what the draft is almost saying and help the student say it. The goal: specificity over generality, scene over summary, revelation over resume.
4
Polishing & Refinement
We fine-tune every word. Voice, tone, rhythm, word choice, opening line, final sentence. The finished essay is formal enough to command respect, personal enough to command attention, and authentic enough to be undeniably, unmistakably the student.

The Main Essay Package spans four one-hour sessions, one per stage. Students pursuing the Complete Essay Portfolio continue with supplemental essay support after Step 4.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before we begin.

What grades and ages do you work with?
I work primarily with high school juniors and seniors who are actively preparing their college applications. Occasionally I work with sophomores who want an early start on essay exploration and identity work. If your student is in a different situation, reach out — I'm happy to discuss whether coaching makes sense.
What is the Common App personal statement, and how do you help with it?
The Common App personal statement is a 650-word essay required by most four-year universities that use the Common Application. It is your student's opportunity to speak directly to admissions officers as a full human being — not just a transcript. My four-session Main Essay Package is specifically designed to guide students through every stage of this essay, from choosing a topic to the final sentence.
How is working with you different from using a large tutoring platform?
The most significant difference is perspective. I am an active school administrator. I work every day within the educational ecosystem your student is navigating. I understand, at a level most platform tutors simply cannot, what distinguishes students who present themselves compellingly in an application from those who don't. That insider insight — earned through twenty years in schools, not just writing classrooms — is at the heart of every session.
Do you write the essays for students?
No — and that is by design. Every essay produced through Authentic Voice is written entirely by the student. My role is to ask the questions that surface what is worth writing, coach the student through the drafting process, and refine the final product together. Academic integrity is the foundation of everything we do. The voice on the page is always, and entirely, the student's own.
When should we start?
Ideally, we begin in the spring of the student's junior year or the summer before senior year. Starting early allows ample time to brainstorm thoroughly, draft without pressure, and revise with care. That said, I have worked with students who reached out in October with November deadlines — and the process still produced excellent results. Whenever you are ready, we can work with the time available.
Do you offer help with supplemental essays?
Yes. The Complete Essay Portfolio includes six supplemental essay coaching sessions in addition to the full Main Essay Package. For students who have already completed their main essay and need targeted help with school-specific supplements, I'm happy to discuss a customized arrangement. Reach out through the contact form to share your situation.
How do I get started?
Use the contact form below to send a brief message about your student's timeline and goals. I will respond within 24–48 hours to schedule a consultation. If you're not yet sure whether coaching is right for your student, the $99 Discovery Session is a no-commitment way to find out — and a genuinely useful session in its own right.
